Technical Details

  • Accepts .ts, .mts and .m2ts transport-stream files, the format used by TV recorders, AVCHD camcorders and downloaded HLS streams. You can add several files at once.
  • Video is re-encoded to H.264 at CRF 18, 23 or 28 (high, medium or low quality) and audio is converted to AAC, the combination every MP4 player supports.
  • Optionally downscale to 1080p, 720p or 480p, or keep the original resolution.
  • Fast mode uses the x264 "fast" preset for quicker conversion; turning it off uses "medium" for slightly smaller files.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a TS file?

TS (Transport Stream) files are used for broadcasting, TV recordings, IPTV, and Blu-ray. MP4 is more practical for everyday playback.

Can I convert TV recordings?

Yes, TS files from DVR recordings, IPTV, or TV capture cards can be converted to MP4 for easy playback on any device.

What happens to multiple audio tracks?

The primary audio track is included in the MP4 output. Multiple audio tracks from broadcasts may not all transfer.

Why re-encode instead of just changing the container?

Transport streams often carry MPEG-2 video or interlaced footage that many MP4 players handle poorly. Re-encoding to H.264 takes longer than a container swap, but the result plays everywhere.

Will the 720p option stretch my video?

The resolution presets are 16:9 frame sizes. For 4:3 or vertical footage, choose "Keep Original Resolution" so the picture is not stretched.
